The Aperio Slide Scanning Core, part of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, provides researchers the ability to image entire glass histology slides at either 20X or 40X while storing the data as a virtual slide. The core is equipped with an Aperio AT2 digital slide scanner, capable of delivering high-throughput whole slide imaging for up to 400 slides at a time.
The AT2 generates bright-field whole slide images at 20X (0.50µm/pixel) or 40X (0.25µm/pixel) magnification output as a 24-bit color pyramid TIFF (.SVS file). Once scanned, slides can be viewed as a virtual slide at any magnification up to the scanning resolution. Readily available Aperio software can be downloaded and used to view these virtual slides on your computer.
Features such as viewing, exporting, annotating, scale bars and image adjustments are available with the Aperio software. Researchers can then take their virtual slides back to their lab and apply the images to their lab’s image analysis pipeline, use them in publications, use them for teaching or simply place them in long term storage.
